The Digital Skills Gap is Widening

Eighty percent of middle-skill jobs require Microsoft Excel or Word proficiency. Yet, many students are not learning these skills in their coursework or entering the job market with them. This digital skills gap is particularly problematic for:

  • Students who cannot complete their coursework correctly and efficiently.
  • Instructors who sacrifice valuable instruction time to teach fundamental skills students should already possess.
  • New grads who fail to meet employers’ expectations and struggle on the job.
  • Employers who must spend time and money upskilling and reskilling employees to meet basic job requirements.

Our Microsoft Excel eLearning Library Bridges the Digital Skills Gap

We’ve partnered with IT assessment and certification provider Isograd™ to offer a self-paced, on-demand eLearning Library for assessing, developing, and validating students’ Microsoft Excel skills.

This "learn on demand" institutional subscription includes:

  • TOSA™ pre-assessments for evaluating digital skills competencies mapped to specific fields of study and their respective Excel requirements.
  • Cloud-based, self-paced, automatically graded instructional content on Microsoft Excel.
  • TOSA™ post-assessments and automated reporting for tracking students’ progress and competency achievement.

How It Works

  • Integrate. A program or course supplements existing curricula with the Microsoft Excel eLearning Library, delivered in Paradigm’s Cirrus™ learning environment or in the institutions’ preferred learning management system.
  • Pre-assess. Students take self-directed, TOSA™ pre-assessments to evaluate Microsoft Excel competencies mapped to their fields of study.
  • Identify needs. Immediate assessment feedback identifies which competencies students do not possess and the Cirrus™ learning modules required for achieving them.
  • Complete modules. Students complete Cirrus™ learning modules as required, self-paced homework.
  • Post-assess. Students complete a TOSA™ post-assessment for a final evaluation of the competencies they possess, while instructors receive real-time reporting of students’ progress and results.

Student Benefits

Validate competencies already learned. After completing a TOSA™ pre-assessment, students can “test out” of learning modules aligned with skills they already possess.

Focus effort where it’s really needed. Students must complete only the learning modules aligned to the competencies they lack, as required in their fields of study.

Experience self-paced, flexible learning. Students work at their own pace, without strict assignment deadlines. They can speed up or slow down as their schedule allows. Plus, the eLearning Library is accessible anytime, anywhere. This allows students to learn when and where it’s most convenient for them.

Instuctor Benefits

Add instruction. Save time and resources. Integrate new instruction seamlessly into existing curricula without having to drive lessons or grade students’ work.

Focus on teaching, not troubleshooting. Let the eLearning Library develop and validate students’ prerequisite skills in Microsoft Excel. This allows course instruction to be laser-focused on essential concepts.

Prove that students are career ready. Provide evidence that students are learning the requisite skills needed to succeed in businesses in the local community.
